Checkout this list of drummers https://www.moderndrummer.com/article/march-2018-modern-drummer-2018-readers-poll-winners/

Im sure you will agree - its an epic list.

My favourite for the year is Taylor Hawkins - he blew me away at the most recent Foo Fighters concerts. He is super tight and completely rocks as a drummer and amazing musician. I would also like to to sit down with him for a few hours to pick his brains on his latest set up. Its certainly grown in the last few years!

<![CDATA[What we do for your drumming...]]>Tue, 23 Feb 2016 12:07:37 GMThttp://drumlessonssydney.com/blog/what-we-do-for-your-drummingWe've had a lot of questions about what else we do for you at Drum Lessons Sydney.

Continuing on from our last blog... below are some additional areas that we work on with you...

Drum Set Posture - We provide basic tips that can help you improve your posture at the drum set. We explain how to relax your back, shoulder and arm muscles while playing the drum set. If you implement these tips you will significantly improve relaxation and endurance.

Drum Tuning Troubleshooting - Do you have annoying buzzes and clicks coming from your drum set? If so, we will dedicate part of a drum lesson to show you how you can eliminate most sounds and figure out where they may be coming from. You can even bring your kit in so we can tune it for you... but better still, you will tune it with us directing you... that way you will know what to do next time!

Drum Set Warm-ups - We use these techniques before any practice session or gig. In this lesson, we will demonstrate a few simple warm-up exercises that you can use to improve your drumming. They focus on hand to feet synchronisation, and both single and double stroke rolls. It's best to play these along with a metronome so that you can also improve your timing and control.

Drum Warm-ups and Stretches - Before you sit down at your kit for a vigorous drumming session, make sure you stretch your muscles so that you do not end up hurting yourself. Dimitri walks you through a few easy dynamic stretches (as opposed to static stretches) and warm-ups to do to avoid injuries. We use a dynamic stretching method prior to playing and a static method for post.

Learn To Play Drums - We teach the essentials of playing the drums based on a simple quarter note rock beat. We then explain how you can use this groove in several different drumming styles. Everything is explained in great detail. If you can count to four, you can play the drums!

Doubles to Singles Exercise - This exercise will strengthen your overall rudimentary drumming along with speeding up your hands allowing you to practice transitioning between drum rudiments. We will guide you through this simple exercise.

The Burn Exercise - Want to increase your hand speed? We show you an excellent exercise which you can perform either on your snare drum or a practice pad. The Burn Exercise will have you flying around the kit in no time! No pain... no gain!]]>
<![CDATA[Looking to learn drums?]]>Mon, 22 Feb 2016 12:10:47 GMThttp://drumlessonssydney.com/blog/looking-to-learn-drumsIf you answered yes, read on...

Are you looking for starter drum lessons that will show you the basic essentials of how to play the drum set? If so, you've come to the right place. Drum Lessons Sydney can create a series of tailored beginner drum lessons that will guide you through essential techniques you will need to learn as a drummer. We cover important fundamentals including: how to play drums, drum related terms, how to hold the drumsticks, bass drum techniques, drum set posture, and simple drum set warm-ups!

We will explain the basics of how to play drums with a simple eighth note rock beat. We start out by teaching the fundamentals of counting, and then demonstrate how you can slowly build a beat that incorporates the hi-hats, snare drum and the bass or kick drum.

Below is a little more on what we do...

Drum Related Terms - Knowing all the important drum related terms is valuable if you want to talk about drums in an online discussion forum or at your local music store. Learning all the correct terminology ensures you are able to communicate with other drummers in a clear and concise manner. We cover everything you need to know!

Holding The Drumsticks - One of the most essential things every drummer must learn is how to hold drumsticks correctly. This is essential because it is such a big part of everyday drumming. Correct grip reduces tension, and gives you the opportunity to play with more speed, power, control, and endurance. Get it right from the start!

Choosing Drumsticks - Learn how to properly select drumsticks when you're in the drum store. Take tips from professional drummers and instructors as they walk you through the drumstick selection process in a real drum store.

We'll be posting more at our blog about what we are up to... so look out for our next post and drop us an email if you have any questions.... or contact us at

<![CDATA[Cymbal preferences...]]>Mon, 22 Feb 2016 12:08:49 GMThttp://drumlessonssydney.com/blog/cymbal-preferences
Which Cymbals do you prefer? Zildjian, Sabian, Paste... there are so many out there... At the moment I am loving the new XS Sabians. This SABIAN offers a high-performance, low-cost cymbal for drummers at all levels. These are not budget cymbals − they are cymbals designed to better fit within the average drummer’s cymbal budget. Bright, clean and musical at any level, I love them!
