If you’re new to drumming, or even a seasoned professional, you should be practicing your rudiments every single day. I recently discovered John Wooton’s video lessons on Vic Firth's website. Check out the sections on “How to Learn and Practice the Rudiments” and “The Real Rudiments”. He suggests a method of working through the rudiments in a 4 Tier Rudiment Learning Sequence which may help guide you as you progress from one to the next. The videos go from slow to fast and back to slow so you can fully understand each rudiment.
The website also displays a rudiment application exercise which may help you use it more effectively on the drum kit! Check out the 4 step approach below... what's your favourite rudiment and how do you apply it to the kit?
